The Police in Kampala have in custody suspected ringleaders of a gang that operates around Nakivubo Channel, Entebbe Road, Owino Market stretch and Kisenyi.

The gang leaders identified by one name Julius and Abdul, were arrested in an operation led by Central Police Station – CPS operations commander, Ivan Nduhura.

According to Nduhura, the suspects have trained a group of children whom they deploy to snatch phones and wallets from unsuspecting members of public.

They have also several times been captured by Closed Circuit Television – CCTV security cameras stealing. 

The suspects’ images had been stationed in the different CCTV monitor systems and they were being trailed by covert police officers until they were arrested last evening.

“Most wanted city thugs captured Julius and Abdul operate along Entebbe road, Nakivubo channel, Katwe and Kisenyi. They been heading the team that Rob, snatch phones and bags in these areas,” Nduhura added.

In a related development, Local Defence Unit (LDU) personnel have arrested 15 suspected drugs dealers in the central business district. The group was arrested in the Thursday night operation where several exhibits particularly drugs pellets were also recovered.

The 15 suspects are currently detained at CPS and will be arraigned in courts once their files are ready.
