The Police have arrested a woman in Nabweru, Nansana Municipality for allegedly strangling her baby and dumping him in a pit latrine.

Patrick Onyango Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson identifies the suspect as Sarah Nanteza, a resident of Nabweru in Nansana Municipality, Wakiso District who killed her one-day old baby on Monday morning.

According to Onyango, officers at Nabweru police station were informed by Nantenze’s neighbours and her boyfriend who became suspicious after the baby was not seen nor heard crying.

However, upon interrogation the suspect admitted to strungling the baby and dumping it in a pit latrine. She later directed the police which went with the fire brigade and retrieved the body.

Nantaza told the cops that the child’s father was not taking care of her and that with no source of income, it was difficult to look after the baby.

However, preliminary investigations show that Nanteza has two boyfriends, one who stays in Dubai and the father of the child in Uganda. When she heard that the Dubai boyfriend was soon returning home, she decided to do away with the baby which was the evidence that could give her away that she had been pregnant.

Onyango added that police investigations on going and that a murder case has been opened against Nanteza, while the body has been taken to the city mortuary for postmortem.
