President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to deliver a national address on the state of current affairs in the country.

The Senior press secretary to the President, Linda Nabusayi made the announcement last week, saying the national address will air on national TV and radios at 8 pm.

The president is expected to address the nationwide concerns on increasing food prices, rising famine because of the long drought, fuel crisis, and increasing costs of essential commodities, among others.

The Karamoja sub-region continues to report people dying from hunger due to famine. Thousands are also starving in the Karamoja area and other parts of the country after their crops dried prematurely.

The Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Hon Mathias Mpuuga asked the Prime Minister during a plenary session on Tuesday to explain to the house the strategy that the Government has to handle the country-wide food crisis that has been caused by the long drought. He has asked whether there is enough food in government silos.

Meanwhile, Boda Boda operators are also demanding that the President pronounce himself on a matter they call illegal registration.

Last week, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago sued the Attorney General, Minister for Kampala Capital City Authority, and Kampala Resident City Commissioner to block the training, registration, and uniforming of Boda Boda riders.

Lukwago said reducing the number of Boda Boda operators at specified stages and within Kampala to only 7000 out of 200,000 is not right.

Meanwhile, the issue of fuel is still of major concern. Currently, the cost of a liter of fuel costs over 6000 shillings nationwide.

During his last address at the State of the nation in June 2022, the president offered no immediate solutions to the fuel and increased food prices but advised the public to engage in agriculture on a wider scale to alleviate poverty.

The president mentioned four sectors including, commercial agriculture, ICT, Industry, and tourism as ways to create employment and cause massive social-economic transformation.

"If aggressively pushed, it will cause massive social-economic transformation. I estimate that commercial agriculture alone can create 50million jobs if you assume five million households engaged in small-scale agriculture of the Rwengaaju type and each household employing 10 people. " - Museveni said
