Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has given Boda Boda operators another ultimatum of up to Friday, September 16th, 2022 to register in the ongoing census exercise or be expelled from the City.

KCCA Spokesperson Simon Kasyate has revealed that any rider who shuns the registration process will not be able to operate in the city in the near future.

The registration exercise dubbed the "Boda Boda Census", in Kampala has flopped despite it being extended for another two weeks on September 01.

The exercise was a directive by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja to KCCA to streamline operations of the Boda Boda Industry. Riders and owners were required to visit twelve designated venues to register.

However, by Monday, approximately 20,000 Boda Bodas had been registered out of an estimated 50,000 riders in the City. Kasyate has asked riders to embrace the exercise.

“If a boda boda operator skips registration by Friday this week, it will be difficult for them to operate in Kampala. As KCCA, We first want to finalize the census and proceed to plan. But we cannot plan for people we don’t know, We have registered over 20000 Boda Bodas so far and are aware that the number is bigger than that,”

Kasyate said

KCCA plans to gazette stages and allocate them to riders and issue uniforms and stickers with a scannable QR Code containing details of the riders.

Prior to the census, the State Minister for Kampala and Metropolitan Affairs Kabuye Kyofatogabye announced a registration exercise and training of riders.

Deputy Resident City Commissioners(DRCCs) were to conduct the registration exercise while the Uganda Driving Licensing Agency(UDSA) would conduct training for riders. Several riders registered with their DRCCs and trained with UDSA at Shillings 50,000.
