President Yoweri Museveni has directed that the deceased Supreme Court judge is laid to rest in a state funeral.

Justice Opio Aweri, 69, died last week on Wednesday at Mulago Specialised National Referral Hospital.

According to Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, the president directed that the government takes over his burial expenses.

The PM's message was issued by Kabuye Kyofatogabye at the Uganda Media Center.

Kyofatogabye said that the government has already formed the National Organising Committee chaired by the Minister for Presidency to oversee the funeral arrangements.

According to the burial arrangements, on Monday, the State convened a funeral service for the deceased at All Saints Cathedral.

On Tuesday, the body of the Supreme Court Justice will lie in State at Parliament.

On Wednesday, the body will be airlifted to Lira City where a District Council siting will convene.

On Thursday, a funeral service will happen at Augustine Church Barogole, Lira, after which, it will be taken to Dokolo district for an overnight vigil and burial.

He will finally be laid to rest on Friday 16th December at Acungapenyi Cell in Kachung Western Ward, Agwata Town Council I'm Dokolo district.

The State funeral is in line with the Administration of the Judiciary Act 2020 section 23.

It allows for a supreme Court judge to be accorded a state funeral with all expenses covered by the government.

Also, Flags must fly at half-mast.

The law provides for  a state burial for specified public officers .

The died in service as a Chief Inspector of the Courts of Judicature.
