Women from different organizations have this morning taken their peace campaign to the Go forward TDA presidential campaign team ahead of this month’s elections.

The groups which include FOWODE, UWONET, ACFODE, WDN, and CEWIGO were represented by Rita Aciro the executive director of Uganda women network UWONET.

Aciro was quoted as saying “We the women of Uganda from different walks of life – NGOs, Faith Based Organizations, academia, business, political parties and many others gathered here today under the umbrella of the women’s democracy group would like to express our deepest concern at the increasing level of political violence and intolerance which is countering citizens’ aspirations of peace, inclusion and genuine.”

Aciro explains that the political clashes which occurred in Ntungamo, Gulu, and Bukwo between Police, political parties and their supporters are increasing significantly and its effects are spilling over into the citizenry.

“We call upon all political actors including candidates to use their voice to call for peace and unity ahead of the elections; we call upon supporters to refrain from any processes that breed intolerance and violent conflicts.”

The peace torch was received by the Go forward chief of staff Ms. Solome Kimbugwe on behalf of their president Amama Mbabazi who is today campaigning in Kiboga, Kyankwanzi and Hoima districts.

Solome thanked the women for the good campaign and promised a peaceful election and power transition.
