Opposition leader Dr. Kiiza Besigye is being held at Naggalama police station after he was arrested by police this morning at Mulago roundabout.

Kampala metropolitan police publicist, Patrick Onyango says Besigye was arrested after defying the officers’ guidelines to not pass through the city center on his way to the FDC head offices in Najjanankumbi for the famous Tuesday prayers.

Onyango confirms Besigye is in their custody at Naggalama police station;

“We have Besigye at Naggalamma police station. Today at around 11am as he was going for prayers at Najjanankumbi, he was moving with a procession, our officers advised him when he reached Mulago roundabout on the route he was supposed to take for his safety and that of others, he defied insisting he wanted to go through the city centre, this was contravening the law of the public order act.”

Besigye was expected to join other FDC party leaders and supporters for prayers at their headquarters in Najjanankumbi following the end of the police siege on his home that lasted for forty days.

However, today’s episodes in Kampala, did not stop the party from proceeding with the prayers that were attended by party leaders including party President Mugisha Muntu, Ingrid Turinawe, and other opposition leaders like Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.
