650 people have today received medals during the 27th Heroes’ day anniversary in Buikwe.
President Yoweri Museveni was part of the group and received the 'Order of Katonga' military medal. He explained that the medal is not his alone but for all those who pioneered the struggle.
Addressing the crowds after the awarding ceremony, President Yoweri Museveni who was the chief guest at the ceremony said the medals come with 'something', but right now the government has a lot of responsibilities
The president explained that the heroes of Uganda are not only those who went to the battlefield but also the supporters, especially the peasants.
According to Museveni, people who went to the battlefield had a vision which was beyond their personal gains.
He thanked the people of Bukunja for their support during the struggle. Buikwe residents offered NRA fighters shelter during the bush war.
The day was celebrated under the theme; “concretizing the gains of our Heroes is a duty for every Ugandan.”
