Members of the 10th Parliament have today entered day three of their internal induction which began on Monday 20th June 2016.

On Monday, the Clerk to Parliament, Mrs. Jane L. Kibirige, said the training is expected to run until Friday 24th June, and it is aimed at giving MPs a general overview of Parliament so that they are well acquainted with how the institution operates.

“All the Directors of the Departments are expected to make presentations about the roles of their respective departments so that you have a proper grasp of what happens here,” Mrs. Kibirige said.

The Deputy Clerk, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Okello Obabaru who presented a paper on administration and governance of Parliament, on Monday urged the Members of Parliament to embrace the tradition of accountability.

“When you travel, you should account. Provide a report which should form part of that accountability,” Obabaru said.

He said Members are always assigned a Clerk or a Research Officer who can help in compiling the report. He added that MPs should also always submit their boarding passes whenever they travel out of the country.

“Failure to provide all the necessary documentation for accountability will result into money being deducted from your emoluments,” Obabaru said.

The Assistant Director Administration in the Commission Secretariat , Mr. Benson Masereka added that the Parliamentary Commission caters for the welfare of the MPs and urged them to always reach out to it in case of any need.

“If you have any inquiries concerning your emoluments and welfare in general, you can reach out to the Commissioners because they are your point of contact with the responsible officers,” Masereka said.

Day two of the induction saw presentations by departments of Corporate Planning, Research, and Finance & Administration.

Members raised lots of questions on per diem for travel abroad, medical insurance & cars.

The Director of Finance, Mr. Patrick Kunobwa told the however, that at the moment there is no money for cars in the budget.
