High Court has dismissed an application filed by Joy Kabatsi seeking to block the nomination of her rival Hanifa Kawooya, the Sembabule Woman MP.
Kabatsi sought to block Kawooya's nomination on grounds that she lacks the requisite academic qualifications to contest for a parliamentary seat. In her application, Kabatsi claimed that Kawooya possess forged Ordinary and Advanced Level certificates.
However, through her lawyer Kandeebe Ntambirweki, Kawooya argued that she possesses genuine academic qualifications. In his ruling this afternoon, Justice John Eudes Keitirima dismissed Kabatsi's application on grounds that she had failed to provide evidence to back her claims.
He dismissed the petition and asked Kabatsi who didn't attend the court session to meet the costs of the suit. The ruling triggered jubilation in Kawooya's camp.
