Musician Sheebah Karungi has spoken about the intense scrutiny public figures face over their personal lives, arguing that celebrities are often judged for choices that are common among ordinary people.
Speaking on The Let’s Talk About It podcast, Sheebah reflected on the criticism she received after having a child with a man who already had two children.
Sheebah noted that having half-siblings is common in many Ugandan families and questioned why her situation attracted such strong reactions.
“If you do research across most families in Uganda, there’s a child that came when older than the rest,” she explained.
She added that many families have half-siblings and continue to live normally, but her decision was treated differently because of her celebrity status.
“Most Ugandan families have half siblings and they’re doing just fine. But when I gave birth with someone who already had children, one would think I was the first person to ever do it in the whole of Africa just because I am Sheebah,” she said.
Sheebah’s comments highlight her view that public figures are often subjected to a different standard of judgment when it comes to their personal choices.
