Events promoter Abbey Musinguzi, popularly known as Abitex, has questioned Bebe Cool’s place in Uganda’s “Big Three” music debate, arguing that the singer built his reputation through showbiz rather than music alone.
Abitex said Jose Chameleone and Bobi Wine earned their positions through their musical contributions, while Bebe Cool benefited from his controversial public image and the headlines surrounding him.
“Bebe Cool didn’t deserve to be in the Big Three discussion. He got involved there because of his bully character and the news. He didn’t get there because of music. It is showbiz that took him there. The other two have been there because of their music, Chameleone and Bobi Wine,” he said.
Despite his criticism, Abitex acknowledged that Bebe Cool has improved musically over the years, suggesting that the singer’s growth as an artiste is worth recognising.
The “Big Three” debate has long featured Bebe Cool, Jose Chameleone and Bobi Wine, three prominent figures whose music and public profiles have shaped Uganda’s entertainment industry.
Abitex’s remarks add another voice to the ongoing discussion about whether an artiste’s standing should be measured by musical achievements, public influence or the attention they attract.
