Di Maria also revealed that Louis Van Gaal didn’t help the cause because of his poor relationship with the manager.

The former Benfica and Real Madrid winger arrived for £59.7million as the Premier League’s record signing from Real Madrid but left after just a year for PSG of France.

Di Maria was quoted as saying by the Mirror UK: “Honestly, we were not happy. At the beginning, we were a little. But then things became complicated.

“Life in England was a bit difficult. It is not easy for a South American. Some people get on fine, and for others it is harder to adapt.

The Argentine said his poor relationship with Van Gaal added to his misery.

“I didn’t have a great relationship with the coach, so I think the decision to join Paris was the best solution.”

Di Maria revealed that the bulglary on his wife left his wife and daughter unsettled and itching for time away from Manchester.

He said: “After [the break-in] it wasn’t reasonable to stay. My family wasn’t happy. My daughter was suffering. So it was important to leave.

“From the little I have seen, our life here in France resembles more the life we led in Spain or Portugal. And at the moment we are 100 percent satisfied.”

Di Maria rejected the notion he had already decided to join PSG in the middle of last season.

Di Maria’s national teammate Marcos Rojo has however defended his former club colleague. Rojo feels Di Maria could have been more successful if he was settled.
