Residents of Mukasinde cell, Mwendo parish, Kitumba Sub County in Kabale district were over the weekend left in panic after they recovered a gun, police shirt and cap, dumped in a bush.

Special Police Constable Allan Aharimpisya, whose service number is 6862, is in custody after being accused of losing an AK47 rifle and thirty rounds of ammunition.

Police indicates that Aharimpisya left Kabale police station on Saturday night and went home in Mukasinde cell, Mwendo parish, Kitumba Sub County in Kabale district while armed with a gun.

However, on reaching the trading centre, Aharimpisya got drunk and lost the gun, police shirt and a cap. The gun, rounds of ammunition and the uniform were discovered by locals separately dumped in the bush on Sunday.

Aaron Besigye, one of the locals who found the gun says that they immediately alerted police for investigation. Besigye says that tension reduced after police explained that that the rifle belongs to their records and was not in the hands of criminals.

Elly Maate, the police spokesperson for Kigezi region says that Aharimpisya was found at his home sleeping while drunk. He says that the suspect is being held at Kabale police station pending further investigations. Police blocked journalists from talking to Aharimpisya.
