Earlier this year, Kadongokamu artist and politician Mathias Walukaaga announced his intention to contest the Busiro East Member of Parliament seat in the 2026 elections.

However, he has since reversed his decision and will not contest the position in the upcoming elections.

He explained that after conducting sufficient research and holding deliberations with different people in the constituency, he will instead run again for the Mayor of Kyengera Town Council.

Walukaaga in turn endorsed the current MP, Medard Ssegona, and said that Ssegona is still capable of representing the constituency and deserves to serve another term.

"I won't contest for the MP position, and I think Medard Ssegona still has the energy to represent our people. I have moved around doing my research, and at the moment, I will still serve as the Mayor of Kyengera," he explained.
