Omumbejja Diana Balizzamuggale Kirungi Teyeggala Ndege, a daughter of the late Ssekabaka Edward Muteesa II and a sister to the reigning Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, has been laid to rest this evening at the Kasubi Royal Tombs.

Princess Diana passed away at the age of 59 after a period of illness, according to a statement from the Buganda Kingdom. She died at a medical facility in Kisubi, central Uganda. The kingdom did not disclose details of her illness.

Born Princess Diana Balizzamuggale Teyeggala Ndege, she was the last-born child of Edward Frederick William David Walugembe Mutebi Luwangula Muteesa II, Uganda’s first President and Kabaka of Buganda.

The burial ceremony was attended by members of the royal family and close relatives, in line with Buganda Kingdom customs, as the kingdom paid its final respects to one of its princesses.

Her death has cast a shadow over the Buganda Kingdom, with subjects and well-wishers mourning the loss of a royal daughter whose life was closely tied to the history of the Buganda monarchy.

May her soul rest in eternal peace.
