For years, Frank Gashumba and Kalungu West MP Joseph Gonzaga Sewungu were inseparable — united by Catholic faith, deep family ties and a shared background in Villa Maria, Kalungu District.

That brotherhood has now collapsed in dramatic fashion.

A few weeks ago, the two former allies went public with their disagreements, trading sharp words that quickly ignited debate across social media. The fallout escalated when Sewungu branded Gashumba a “conman, thief and fraudster,” accusing him of living off stolen money and goods.

Those remarks have now pushed Gashumba to completely cut all ties with the legislator.

“All along I thought we were brothers, but that was false. I didn’t know he hated me and my family that much. We never listened to our father — now I regret it. He always warned us that they were bad people. The brotherhood has ended,” Gashumba declared.

The political activist did not stop there.

In what now looks like a brewing Kalungu political storm, Gashumba announced plans to personally enter the trenches of Kalungu West and decampaign Sewungu ahead of the next general elections.

“I will make sure he does not return to Parliament,” Gashumba vowed.

With both men influential in their own right, the fallout is already reshaping political conversations in Kalungu — and insiders say this feud could become one of the most explosive local battles as the 2026 race approaches.
