Pastors in Uganda have long been influential in the country's politics. They command large followings and exert significant influence over people in their communities.
A Call for Neutrality
However, media personality, musician, and now politician Tuff B argues otherwise.
He believes the church and its pastors should remain separate from politics. He contends they should not take political sides and must maintain a stance of fairness and neutrality toward all parties.
Tuff B explained that the church should be welcoming to everyone, regardless of their political affiliation. Their mission, he stresses, should be to unite people and communities rather than to choose sides.
"Pastors should stop taking political sides. You should remain fair to all sides, go to all people, and remain neutral. The Church should unite everyone and guide the population instead of choosing sides," he asserted in an interview with a local television station.
Recent Political Involvement
In recent years, the Catholic Church has been particularly influential in Uganda's political landscape. On occasion, the government has accused it of supporting the opposition and has consequently perceived it as being against the ruling side.
