Legendary media personality Edwin Katamba, popularly known as Mc Kats, has revealed that he is considering ending his long-run television career to focus on digital content creation.
Mc Kats, who launched his TV journey in the early 2000s at the now-defunct WBS TV, later moved to NTV Uganda, and is currently a co-host of the NBS After 5 show, says the traditional television space is losing relevance in the digital age.
The veteran host explained that TV viewership is declining rapidly as audiences shift to social media, YouTube, and online streaming platforms.
“It’s very tough for Television because people no longer watch it like before. They are seeking news from social media, YouTube and others,” Kats said.
He added that even his own children no longer watch TV, which has pushed him to rethink his career direction.
“Personally, I ask people how many times they watch me on TV and it’s terrible. Even my children no longer watch me. It’s time to think outside the box—social media is moving ahead of us and we need to move on,” he noted.
Mc Kats hinted that he plans to invest more energy into his YouTube channel and personal projects, suggesting his departure from mainstream TV could happen soon.
For now, Mc Kats continues to host NBS After 5 alongside Douglas Lwanga, Vianna Indi, DJ Roja, and Mercy.
