As tradition demands, the annual Enkuuka Festival went down on 31st December at Lubiri Palace, Mengo, welcoming thousands of revelers to usher in the New Year in the presence of His Majesty Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, the Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, and other kingdom dignitaries.
While the event appeared smooth and festive on the surface, behind the scenes it was a completely different story.
This year’s edition was strictly non-partisan, with multiple security checkpoints established around the venue. Anyone spotted with political symbols, colours, or messages — including clothing — was either denied entry or ordered to remove them.
Security also enforced a new rule on performers:
no gangs, no entourages.
Each artiste was only allowed entry with a manager, a social media handler, and a DJ.
All other group members were turned away at the gate.
Kabako Drama
Musician Kabako found himself on the wrong side of security after arriving in red attire, a colour authorities associated with the National Unity Platform (NUP).
He was instructed to change before accessing the stage.
Kabako refused — and was promptly shown the exit door.
Pallaso’s Close Call
Singer Pallaso also arrived dressed in red. After a tense standoff and long negotiations with security, he was eventually allowed to perform — but only with three people from his team. The rest were locked out.
Winnie Wa Mummy Blocked
Perhaps the most shocking moment came when upcoming singer Winnie Wa Mummy was stopped from performing altogether over indecent dressing and alleged nudity, a move that drew whispers among backstage circles.
