NRM Chief Mobiliser and Senior Presidential Advisor, Hadijah Namyalo Uzeiye, has called on the government to halt any move that could result in a ban on TikTok, urging instead for dialogue and balanced regulation.
Speaking at the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) in Kyambogo, Namyalo acknowledged concerns linking the platform to harmful digital content and the spread of misinformation. However, she insisted that an outright ban would not be the right solution.
She proposed what she described as a “national conversation on digital accountability,” an initiative she said is backed by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
“Justice delayed is justice denied. No individual or institution should use provocative or misleading information to harass or mistreat others under the guise of influence,” Namyalo stated, emphasising responsible online engagement.
Namyalo revealed that her office has already drafted a policy proposal outlining legal and regulatory measures aimed at tackling online misinformation, protecting vulnerable groups, and preventing digital manipulation.
She clarified that the proposals are designed to strengthen accountability without suppressing lawful freedom of expression.
According to her, while Parliament handles routine legislative matters, emerging digital challenges such as social media governance require deeper consultation to avoid unintended consequences — including shutting down platforms widely used by Ugandans for business, communication, and entertainment.
