Veteran singer King Micheal has criticized the current generation of Ugandan musicians, labeling them as naive when it comes to handling industry rivalries.
Having spent nearly three decades in the music industry, King Micheal says he has witnessed both past and present conflicts—and believes today’s artists are getting it all wrong.
He compared them to the legendary “Big Three”—Jose Chameleone, Bobi Wine, and Bebe Cool—who dominated headlines with their long-standing rivalries.
According to King Micheal, those past battles were strategic and financially beneficial, unlike today’s conflicts which he says are driven by clout.
“These musicians are naive, they fight for popularity. Years back, the Big Three would fight to benefit. They would stage-manage fights, gain media attention, release music, and end it with a battle—which is not happening today,” he explained.
The veteran artist argues that earlier rivalries were carefully planned to boost careers, generate buzz, and ultimately make money.
In contrast, he believes modern-day artists engage in unnecessary beefs that offer little value beyond temporary social media attention.
