Kadongo Kamu musician-turned-politician Mathias Walukagga has voiced his support for Minister for Local Government Balaam Barugahara's ongoing anti-corruption campaign across Uganda's local governments, describing the initiative as necessary and long overdue.
Speaking during an interview with a local television station, Walukagga said he has no reason to criticize Balaam's approach because he pursued similar efforts during his tenure as Mayor of Kyengera Municipality.
The veteran singer revealed that one of his key priorities while in office was fighting land grabbing, saying he took firm measures to protect public land from illegal encroachment.
"I support Balaam and believe this could be one way of saving taxpayers' money. I personally made it very difficult for people to grab land until I left office," he partly explained.
Walukagga also defended Balaam's decision to record his inspection tours and share the footage on social media, arguing that public transparency helps hold leaders accountable.
"I don't condone corruption, and what he is doing is right. Taxpayers' money should be used for its intended purpose. If you don't want to be exposed, then don't engage in corruption," he declared.
Balaam Barugahara has been touring various districts across Uganda as part of a campaign aimed at combating corruption and improving accountability in local government.
