President Yoweri Museveni has ordered the release of former Speaker of Parliament Anita Among from house arrest, bringing a potential end to months of restricted movement at her Nakasero residence.
The directive was announced by Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who confirmed on X that the President had instructed him to release Among.
“Mzee has also instructed me to release AAA from house arrest. We shall do that as well,” Muhoozi wrote.
Among, who remains the Bukedea Woman MP, had reportedly been under restricted movement at her Nakasero home since May 2026, with security personnel maintaining a presence around the residence.
Months of Security Restrictions
The restrictions followed investigations into allegations surrounding the management of Parliament.
During the investigations, joint teams of police, military and intelligence officers searched properties linked to Among in Nakasero, Kigo, Ntinda and Bukedea District.
Several luxury vehicles were reportedly seized during the operations, including a Rolls-Royce Cullinan reportedly valued at about Shs3.4 billion, a customised Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz vehicles, a Lexus and Land Cruisers.
Security officers also reportedly took cash, documents and land titles during the searches.
Among Could Finally Leave Home
Museveni's latest directive could now bring an end to the prolonged restrictions on Among's movement as investigations into the allegations continue.
The development marks a significant turn in the saga surrounding the former Speaker, whose political career has faced heightened scrutiny since the security operation began.
