Swangz Avenue singer Elijah Kitaka has joined the growing debate over the state of Uganda's music industry, blaming the rise of TikTok and social media culture for distracting artistes from their music.
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Kitaka acknowledged concerns that the industry has fallen from the standards it was once known for, arguing that many musicians now spend more time talking and creating online content than working on their craft.
“Musicians are doing a lot of talking instead of spending time in the studio,” he partly said.
‘We Need to Go Back to Music’
According to Kitaka, the growing obsession with social media has shifted the focus away from songwriting, recording and developing quality music.
The Daily Bando singer believes artistes need to rediscover the discipline required to improve their sound and contribute to the growth of the industry.
“We need to go back to doing music and uplifting the industry,” he added.
Kitaka's comments add to a growing conversation among Ugandan musicians, with several artistes recently raising concerns about the changing music landscape and the impact of social media on the industry.
