DP Releases program for Hon. Mathias Nsubuga’s burial

Body of former Democratic Party secretary General Hon. Mathias Nsubuga will today lie in state as parliament pays their last respects.

Nsubuga died on Sunday evening moments after suffering a stroke. The party this morning introduced a funeral program.

The body will leave parliament at 5PM for his home in Nalumunye where a requiem Mass will be held at 6PM before a vigil at 8PM.

Tomorrow Wednesday, the casket will be taken to Lubaga Cathedral at 8am, Mass will begin at 9am, while the casket will head to Manja-Lwengo district. Another Mass will be held at 8PM tomorrow while a vigil will also start at 11PM through the night.

On Thursday morning at 8am, there will be body viewing at his home, Mass will begin at noon and he will be laid to rest at 2PM.

President Yoweri Museveni described Nsubuga as a great leader who loved dialogue.

Addressing the press this morning, Paul Kenneth Kakande the DP Publicist said Hon. Mathias Nsubuga has served the party with one heart even under trying moments as the party secretary General.

“The late has stood by the party and the by the values we stand for. We feel that we dedicate this moment and celebrate his life as a party. Hon. Nsubuga used to stand here to address the press, to inform the country where we want to go as a party and what we need to do to make this country a better place not for a few people, but the many” said Kakande.

He explained that the party is at loss and they have lost a counselor who always told the party the right thing to do during a crisis.

“He has not lived to see it better, but that’s not our choice but that of God the most High” Kakande added.

The party mouth piece also explained circumstances surrounding the late Hon. Nsubuga’s death. “Hon. Nsubuga collapsed on Friday and got a stroke, he was with Mr. Kidandala Suleiman, the two of them talking about issues pertaining to country. Many people get strokes and they spend a lot of time in the hospital, but Mr. Nsubuga spent in the hospital 2 days. He has no history of Diabetes, or pressure. He was a healthy man, so you would not expect him to have such attacks.”

Meanwhile, former deputy Lord Mayor Suleiman Kidandala who was with the deceased at the time of his stroke also gave a full account of Hon. Nsubuga’s last moments on earth.

“On Friday, around 3:30PM, hon. Nsubuga the Secretary General called me and told me, can you hurry up and find me around Collins house? I met him just in front of Collins house and he was discussing with some three gentlemen and he didn’t have any complaint. When I arrived, he let the three guys go, he held my hand as we sloped down and on reaching the entrance he told me, I need to see Mr. Kasozi, owner of the building and he told me it will take him a few minutes” Kidandala narrated to journalists this morning.

He added; “I told him it was not necessary to proceed with him since it was a private arrangement, but he insisted we go together, and at the counter, there were some ladies, he greeted them and we proceeded. On reaching the door of Mr. Kasozi, Hon. Nsubuga knocked and opened, the secretary told him Mr. Kasozi was out. At that time, he stood still in the middle of the door and didn’t make any movement for over 30 seconds. From behind I tapped his shoulder to ask him what is happening, he could not respond three times, and then he rotated until I held and asked Honorable what is happening? But at that time he was sweating profusely and never spoke again.”
