Christine Lagarde, the managing Director International Monetary fund jets in today to meet and hold bilateral talks with President Yoweri Museveni at state house Entebbe.

The two will also hold a joint press conference on Friday January 27th. Ms. Lagarde jets in this evening ahead of her 4 day state visit at the invitation of President Yoweri Museveni.

Finance minister Matia Kasaija told the press today that, he will receive the IMF boss at Entebbe International airport and there after she will visit the center for domestic violence prevention.

According to Kasaija, Ms. Lagarde will visit parliament, hold bilateral talks with president Museveni, and give a public lecture under the theme; “becoming a champion, Uganda’s development challenge,” which will take place at Serena hotel on Friday after the Press briefing.

“She is expected to engage with lawmakers, policy makers and other stakeholders in affirmation of the IMF’s strong relationship with Uganda” Kasaija said.

He added that; “it has been a while since a sitting managing director of the IMF visited the country, and Lagarde’s visit is an expression of confidence in our economy.”

Kasaija also told the press that her visit will provide an opportunity to build more rapport and strengthen the fund’s partnership with Uganda.

The IMF, also known as the Fund, was conceived at a UN conference in Bretton Woods, New Hampshire, United States, in July 1944.

The IMF's primary purpose is to ensure the stability of the international monetary system, the system of exchange rates and international payments that enables countries (and their citizens) to transact with each other. The Fund's mandate was updated in 2012 to include all macroeconomic and financial sector issues that bear on global stability
