Parliament is set to pay final respect to the late Jack Maumbe Mukhwana, a former historical of the ruling National Resistance Movement-NRM party whose body will today lie in state in parliament.
A program released by the family indicates that Maumbe's body will be airlifted to Kampala this morning to allow members of parliament to eulogise him.
Maumbe, 78 died at Kadama in Budaka district on Monday afternoon while being rushed Nakasero Hospital treatment. He has been battling colon cancer.
Rev. Aloni Mwesaka from Church of Uganda and in law to the deceased confirmed the arrangements to airlift Maumbe's body to Kampala.
Pamela Watuwa, the Mbale Deputy Resident District Commissioner, says once parliament is done with eulogizing the deceased, his body will be flown back to Mbale for a requiem mass at St. Andrew's Cathedral before it's taken to his home in Mabanga village in Bungokho Sub County for burial on Saturday.
President, Yoweri Museveni is expected to be the chief mourner. Beth Maumbe, the Widow to the late and Manafwa Deputy Resident District Commissioner, describes her husband as a revolutionist. Maumbe was an active member of the Front for National Salvation-FRONASA.
He also served as Deputy Information Minister in the Obote II government, the then Bungokho County Member of Parliament and later Kumi and Pallisa Resident District Commissioner. William Mujasi, the brother to the late Maumbe, says his brother was key in the liberation struggle to oust the former President, Idd Amin Dadda.
The Maumbe is survived by a widow, Beth Maumbe, four children and nine grandchildren.
