The Ministry of Health has confirmed that as of October 2, 2022, four Ebola Virus Disease patients were discharged from the hospital after recovering from the deadly disease.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday, the MOH spokesperson said that the discharged patients are from Mubende Regional Referral Hospital.

Ainebyona hailed health workers for a job well done in ensuring that patients are treated properly. He also encouraged community members to visit hospitals immediately after they detect signs and symptoms of the deadly virus disease.

“Health workers have done a good job and community members, the earlier you present in the hospital, the better for you. So whoever has symptoms and signs consistent with Ebola, reach out.”

He adds that surveillance has been beefed up in the affected districts including Kassanda, Kyeggegwa, Kagadi, Bunyangabu, and Mubende, the epicenter of the outbreak.

A Kampala International University medical intern who was working at Mubende Regional Referral Hospital tested positive for Ebola Virus Disease in Bunyangabu district making him the fifth to register a confirmed case. The case is in isolation and receiving treatment at the moment. 

Ainebyona further explained that Ebola treatment units remain at Mubende and Madudu Health Center 3 where the index patient was registered.

He however says the health ministry has already equipped other hospitals with the necessary PPEs and aid from the US government. 

According to the MOH statistics, as of October, 243 active patients have been registered, 9 deaths, and 882 contacts.
