Inspector General of Government (IGG) Aisha Batala Nalule has called for the urgent implementation of new asset recovery regulations aimed at strengthening Uganda’s fight against corruption and improving the recovery of illegally acquired wealth.
The proposal comes at a time when investigations involving former Speaker Anita Annet Among are reportedly nearing completion.
According to reports, investigators have searched several properties linked to Among, seized documents and electronic devices, and impounded luxury vehicles as part of ongoing inquiries into her assets, wealth declarations, and compliance with the Leadership Code Act.
The IGG says the proposed Anti-Corruption (Confiscation and Recovery Orders) Rules, 2026, would provide a stronger legal framework for courts and anti-corruption agencies to trace, confiscate, and recover assets suspected to have been obtained through corrupt practices.
Officials believe the new rules would also help close legal loopholes that have previously slowed down or complicated asset recovery efforts.
If adopted, the regulations are expected to enhance the government's ability to recover public resources lost through corruption while strengthening accountability among public officials.
The developments come amid growing public interest in high-profile corruption investigations and renewed calls for tougher measures against individuals found to have accumulated unexplained wealth.
