Sir Mathias Walukagga, a renowned singer turned politician who is currently serving as the mayor of Kyengera Town Council in Wakiso district, has decided to further his education.
Despite criticism from netizens regarding his academic qualifications and English language skills, the Kadongokamu singer, known for hits like "Ekyatusomosa Lweera," "Tuleppuke," and "Abantu Bakoowu," has proven his detractors wrong. He successfully passed the mature entry examinations at the Kibuli campus of Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) and is preparing to commence a degree program in August this year.
Expressing his enthusiasm and motivation to pursue studies, Walukagga clarified that his goal is not solely to secure employment, but to be recognized as an educated individual. He emphasized that as an artist and job creator, formal education is not a prerequisite.
"I am not studying to look for a job; I am an artiste which does not require any studies, and I want to study to be defined as educated," he explained. "I need to be among the educated people in Uganda, and it’s not because I am looking for a job, I am already a job creator," Walukagga added.
Walukagga expressed gratitude to IUIU for granting him the opportunity to pursue his dreams and expressed readiness to confront the challenges of being a student.
