Singer Fik Gaza is facing a massive backlash after publicly mocking the "Foot Soldiers"—followers of Bobi Wine's National Unity Platform (NUP)—a movement he recently abandoned for the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM).
The criticism intensified following a video where Gaza dismissed the NUP base, stating, "I am not part of the oppressed. When I realised I was oppressed, I looked for ways to better my life, so don't force me to be part of the oppressed."
Fans have flooded the comments, labeling him a "traitor" and accusing him of betraying the support and love given by Bobi Wine for a "small or insignificant reward" from the NRM.
Gaza officially defected earlier this month, marking a complete break from the opposition. He has since become a vocal critic of the NUP and an ardent praise-singer of President Yoweri Museveni.
Speaking at a recent NRM rally in Kololo, Gaza justified his switch, claiming he was misled by Bobi Wine. "I stayed long in darkness," he said. "We were fooled into thinking we would be liberated under NUP, yet President Museveni had already liberated Uganda. I love the President for his endless support for the ghetto people."
His continued efforts to criticize his former allies while embracing the NRM have only fueled the anger of his former political home.
