Musician-turned-politician Geoffrey Lutaaya is under fire after reports emerged that he wants an ambulance he donated to voters in Kakuuto Constituency returned, following his defeat in the just-concluded parliamentary elections.
Lutaaya lost the Kakuuto County MP seat to NRM’s Ismail Lubega, and sources say the loss has left him deeply disillusioned with the electorate.
During the campaign period, Lutaaya purchased an ambulance worth over UGX 200 million, which he publicly handed over to the community as a contribution to improving healthcare services. However, insiders now claim the singer has issued a one-month ultimatum demanding the ambulance be returned.
“He feels betrayed by the voters after all he did for them. He has already instructed his campaign manager to recover the ambulance within a month,” a source in Kyotera revealed.
The move has sparked anger among residents, many of whom view the donation as a public good rather than a conditional campaign tool.
Lutaaya lost the race by over 4,000 votes, but has since rejected the outcome, publicly accusing State Minister Haruna Kasolo of election fraud and voter intimidation.
Critics have also revisited his parliamentary record, noting that Lutaaya reportedly spoke only once on the floor of Parliament during his five-year term, and that was during the heated debate on the Coffee Bill, which he opposed despite its eventual passage.
