Musician Pius Mayanja, also known as Pallaso, has come to the defense of the President of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF), Eddy Kenzo, following his controversial remarks about Kadongo Kamu musicians.
Earlier this month, Kenzo stated that some Kadongo Kamu musicians are broke and have little to show for their years in the industry.
His comments sparked criticism from veteran musicians, who responded in a tearful press conference earlier this week.
Pallaso, however, believes Kenzo was misunderstood and that his remarks were not meant to demean the veteran artists.
“What Kenzo meant is that the older generation worked extremely hard, but piracy and poor systems denied them the opportunity to fully benefit from their music. Those musicians gave us timeless classics, but they lacked social media and the multiple revenue streams that today’s artists enjoy,” Pallaso clarified.
