Supreme Mufti Sheikh Zubairi Kayongo has passed on this morning at Aga Khan Hospital, Nairobi. His deputy, Sheikh Mahmoud Kibaate confirmed the news and added that Sheikh Kayongo had been hospitalized for two weeks.
Sheikh Kibaate further said the Supreme Mufti’s body is still at the hospital in Nairobi.
According to Kibuli Mosque spokesperson, Sheikh Hassan Kirya, the mufti had been hospitalized at Case Clinic for two weeks and later discharged.
“He has been battling Diabetes and high blood pressure,” Sheikh Kirya said.
At the time of his death he had gone to Tanzania for an official visit but his health deteriorated and was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead on Thursday at around 9:30am.
His body will be taken to Dar es salaam main mosque and burial arrangements are yet to be announced.
