A fierce political battle is looming ahead of the general elections next year. Bobi Wine, head of the National Unity Platform, is set to challenge President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni for the highest office in the land.
Different people are already making their opinions clear about whom they support. The Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among, also a mobilizer for the National Resistance Movement, has warned that music will not propel Bobi Wine into the country's leadership.
Anita Among states that Bobi Wine lacks political vision and is only good at confusing people, offering nothing beyond rhetoric.
She says that despite his popular music, he will not be voted into leadership because he has nothing to offer. She maintains that they will continue listening to his music but he should never contemplate the presidency.
“Just because people dance to your music on the streets, you think you can remove President Museveni from power? You believe that being a Rasta and having popular music means people will still support you politically? Don’t let them confuse you with music. Yes, we can enjoy their songs, but they have no political vision,” she explained while in Western Uganda over the weekend.
Bobi Wine has not yet responded to the Speaker of Parliament's claims.
