Opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi has revealed that he received assistance from individuals within Uganda’s security forces to escape the country.
Speaking in an interview with France 24, Bobi Wine said some security personnel who disagree with the current regime secretly helped him leave.
“I had assistance from security people that I won’t mention from within the regime who are not in agreement with the way our country is being run. I was able to escape the country,” he said.
The National Unity Platform leader declined to name the individuals involved, citing concerns for their safety.
His departure came after weeks of reportedly being in hiding following the 2026 Ugandan General Elections, during which he claimed security forces were pursuing him.
Bobi Wine has since indicated that he is currently engaging international partners, particularly in the United States, as part of his continued push for political change in Uganda.
