Musician Lil Pazo has urged fellow artistes, critics and the public to respect Jose Chameleone, arguing that the legendary singer’s contribution to Uganda’s music industry should not be undermined by political differences or personal disagreements.
Pazo’s remarks come amid criticism of Chameleone by some TikTok bloggers who have questioned his age and argued that he should have built a more established legacy by now.
Chameleone has since responded publicly to some of the criticism, but Pazo believes his achievements and influence over the years deserve recognition.
Recalling a trip to Sudan with Chameleone and Weasel, Pazo said the experience helped him understand the singer’s influence and standing in the entertainment industry.
“I moved with Chameleone and Weasel, and Weasel sang well with Radio under Goodlyfe, but we went to Sudan with Chameleone, and that’s when I felt how strong he is. I can never disrespect him or even be in conversations that belittle him,” Pazo said.
The singer added that Chameleone’s relevance should not be judged solely by his latest releases, arguing that his established reputation continues to command attention.
“He was the first person to put me on a plane. We reached the airport, and Weasel was there, and I knew he had motion, but when Chameleone was around, we were nothing,” he said.
Pazo’s comments highlight the respect he holds for Chameleone, whose influence on Uganda’s music scene remains a subject of discussion among artistes and fans.
