Last week, musician Tom Dee lost his mother-in-law, the mother of his girlfriend, Agatha, after she spent months in the intensive care unit at Mulago Hospital.
The mother-in-law was buried in Mpigi over the weekend. The ceremony was attended by TikTokers and a few struggling musicians, led by Omukujja Atasera.
However, a number of artists did not show up at the burial ceremony, which left Tom Dee feeling isolated and disappointed.
He expressed his disappointment in the artists for not standing with him during such a difficult moment, saying their absence was disheartening.
"I was disappointed by the artists for not standing with us when we lost someone so dear to us. It was embarrassing and disheartening but also a lesson to learn," he explained in an interview with a local television station.
Ugandan artists don't often show up for burial ceremonies when one of their own is grieving. Just last month, artists also didn't show up for Jowy Landa when she lost a brother. Only Nandor Love stood by her for two consecutive days during the funeral in Luwero district.
