Musician Mikie Wine has explained how a copyright dispute with veteran artiste Ragga Dee over his song “Zuena” was resolved, saying the senior musician eventually forgave him.
A legal notice from MGC Law Advocates, acting on behalf of Ragga Dee, previously circulated on social media, accusing Mikie Wine of copyright infringement.
The notice claimed Ragga Dee owned the copyright to his 2004 hit “Nkuguddemu Oyagala Cash” and accused Mikie Wine of reproducing and performing the song without authorisation under the title “Zuena.”
Ragga Dee reportedly demanded Shs300 million in compensation within seven days, warning that formal court proceedings could follow if the matter was not resolved.
Speaking in a recent interview with Galaxy TV, Mikie Wine said the dispute was eventually settled through Ragga Dee’s forgiveness, describing the veteran musician as an elder and father figure.
Mikie suggested that the initial complaints may have been influenced by people who told Ragga Dee that the remake had damaged the original song.
However, he said Ragga Dee later listened to “Zuena” himself and appreciated how it had been executed. Mikie also noted that the song had gained widespread popularity across Uganda, helping the veteran recognise that his musical legacy had been preserved.
Mikie Wine denied deliberately bypassing Ragga Dee before recording the song, insisting that his intention was to honour the veteran’s work—a position he believes Ragga Dee eventually understood.
