Filmmaker John Segawa has extensive knowledge about the creative industry in Uganda and believes it's enough for artistes to survive.
Speaking about creatives who were denied party tickets for different constituencies in the country, Segawa says he warned some of them not to join because politics relies on money.
"Politics is a gambling ball. You don’t have the money; you don’t come in. If they had the money, they would have had the party tickets. If you go there, it’s a gamble, and there is no way back," he explained.
John Segawa particularly says he stopped comedian Reign and Flavia Namulindwa from joining active politics, but they didn't listen, and the worst has happened after they were denied party flags.
"Reign, I talked to him and told him I’d be happiest if he didn’t get the party card. I told him, 'We belong to the theatre, and we have a constituency in the arts. We can survive here.' It was the same thing with my sister Flavia Namulindwa; I also stopped her, but they never listened." He added.
John Segawa says politics goes along with money, and without it, it fails to serve the politician (or: the politician fails).
