Ugandan superstar Eddy Kenzo has opened up about the inspiration behind the formation of the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF).
The federation, launched in May 2023, brought together top artists including Sheebah Karungi, Pallaso, Bebe Cool, and Jose Chameleone, with Kenzo serving as president.
Speaking about its formation, Kenzo revealed that his idea was shaped by experiences he had while traveling internationally.
“Through my travels, I learnt a lot of things. Whenever I faced challenges, the Federation of Musicians supported me, and that made me realise we could achieve the same in Uganda,” he explained.
According to Kenzo, the UNMF was created to unite musicians across different genres, promote professionalism, support royalty collection, and encourage collaborations within the industry.
Despite its ambitions, the federation has faced criticism from some industry players and sections of the opposition, with claims that its formation was politically motivated and aimed at weakening Bobi Wine.
However, Kenzo maintains that the federation’s primary goal is to uplift Ugandan musicians and create a structured system that benefits all creatives in the industry.
