The unfinished mansion of former Speaker Jacob Oulanyah in Omoro District has sparked fresh debate after images showed it deteriorating into what many are calling a “shrine.”

Oulanyah, who passed away in March 2022, had been constructing the residence as his retirement home before his death.

At the time of his burial in Lalogi, the government pledged to fund and complete the mansion—a promise that remains unfulfilled to date.

Recent photos circulating online indicate that construction stalled completely, with the structure left untouched for years.

The situation has drawn criticism from the public, with some netizens questioning Andrew Oulanyah, the late Speaker’s son and current Member of Parliament, over the lack of follow-up on the government’s commitment.

Meanwhile, Norbert Mao had earlier promised to pursue the matter, even questioning why it had not been brought to the attention of Yoweri Museveni.

The development has reignited conversations about government pledges and accountability, especially regarding promises made during high-profile state funerals.
