Eight laws assented to, covering health regulation, energy use, labour reforms and public sector changes
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has assented to eight pieces of legislation, with the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights (Amendment) Act, 2026 among the key laws approved.
The amendment strengthens protection of creative works, in a move expected to impact artists, producers and content distributors.
Also assented to is the National Drug and Health Products Authority Act, 2026, which expands regulation across medicines, vaccines, medical devices, diagnostics and cosmetics. The law broadens oversight of health products and strengthens compliance requirements in the sector.
The Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, 2026 introduces mandatory energy standards, audits and regulation of inefficient technologies, targeting improved energy use across industries and households.
In the financial sector, the Non-Performing Assets Recovery Trust (Repeal) Act, 2024 dissolves the Trust and transfers its functions to the Ministry of Finance, in a move aimed at streamlining operations.
Labour reforms are contained in the Employment (Amendment) Act, 2025, which strengthens protections for domestic, casual and migrant workers.
The Forensic and Scientific Analytical Services Act, 2026 provides for improved forensic systems and evidence handling, with implications for investigations and the justice system.
Other laws assented to include the Public Enterprises Reform and Divestiture (Amendment) Act, 2024 and the Magistrates Courts (Amendment) Act, 2026.
