Veteran dancehall musician Buchaman has criticized the current crop of dancehall artists in Uganda, saying they do not match the energy of earlier generations.
The Presidential Advisor on Ghetto Affairs stated that today’s dancehall musicians lack the vibrancy and impact that defined artists from the early 2000s.
Buchaman highlighted artistes such as Peter Miles, Kid Fox, Toolman Kibalama, Bobi Wine, and himself as examples of performers who brought energy and authenticity to the genre.
He urged current musicians to learn from the past in order to improve the state of dancehall music in Uganda.
“Current dancehall musicians in Uganda are boring. They don’t have the vibe we had back then. Artists like me, Bobi Wine, Peter Miles, Kid Fox, and Toolman were at the top of our game,” he explained in an interview with a local television station.
Despite his criticism, Buchaman expressed hope in some current artists, mentioning Fik Fameica, Kapeke, and Cindy as musicians who remain committed to the dancehall genre.
