Musician Pallaso has challenged the idea that concerts charging UGX 20,000 or UGX 30,000 at the gate cannot make artistes good money.
According to Pallaso, affordable ticket prices should not be viewed as the main source of profit at a concert, arguing that entrance fees can primarily help artistes cover operational costs and other obligations.
He explained that some of the biggest returns can instead come from table sales, particularly when artistes tap into their personal networks, as well as sponsorship deals.
“Your social network is your social net-worth. If a table is 5 million and I sell about 10 of them, that's 50 million,” he partly said.
Pallaso's argument highlights how artistes can structure concerts around multiple income streams rather than relying entirely on ordinary ticket sales.
He explained that revenue from entrance fees can help cover expenses such as payments to service providers and Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) obligations, while table sales and sponsorships can provide additional income.
The singer also weighed in on the growing preference among some Ugandan promoters for international artistes and Amapiano performers.
According to Pallaso, the trend is largely influenced by what is currently popular on social media, with promoters responding to sounds and artistes attracting significant online attention.
His comments come amid an ongoing debate in Uganda's music industry about concert ticket pricing, profitability and the changing business model behind live music events.
