Songwriter and singer Dokta Brain has named some of his favourite songwriters in Uganda, highlighting artistes whose lyrics and storytelling have impressed him.
Dokta Brain, who has written several songs for Ugandan musicians, was asked to name the songwriters he rates highly in the country.
He mentioned Fyno UG, Nikoly Ten, Shena Skies, A Pass, Great Roni, Lyrical Tazi and Azawi, while clarifying that the names were not arranged in order of preference.
“Fyno UG, Nikoly Ten, Shena Skies… they aren’t in order of who’s my best, but the list goes on. A Pass, Great Roni, he’s writing very nice music. I listen to the lyrics and say, wow. There’s also Lyrical Tazi, Azawi,” he said.
Dokta Brain also praised Pawaboy, noting that despite his young age, he has demonstrated strong songwriting skills and an ability to communicate meaningful messages through his music.
“Pawaboy, for his age, he writes so well and executes the message. That’s what makes him different,” he said.
The songwriter said the quality of an artiste’s work can make them stand out regardless of how casually they approach songwriting.
