Authorities in Mbarara have commenced investigations into three presiding officers in Mbarara City for alleged electoral malpractice during the presidential and parliamentary elections last week.

According to Olivia Atuhurira the Mbarara City Returning Officer, she has received complaints from some candidates accusing the polling officials of being partisan and these have been replaced or dropped.

Atuhurira reveals that there is a presiding officer who used the declaration form signed by a presiding officer from another polling station, indicating an anomaly that had gone unnoticed.

Meanwhile, the presiding officer of the new taxi park (A-Z) polling station was dismissed for registering more votes compared to the registered voters at the polling station during the presidential and parliamentary elections, leading to cancellation of the results from this particular polling station.

According to Apollo Musinguzi the Rwizi Regional Election Officer, candidates are warned against moving around polling stations during Wednesday’s polls to stir confusion and ferry voters and to avoid a repeat of last week’s mistakes.

In Mbarara, six candidates are vying for the Mbarara Mayor’s seat and they include; incumbent Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi the National Resistance Movement-NRM party candidate, Stanley Katembeya Tugume from the Forum for Democratic Change-FDC, Norman Mugarura Vincent from the Alliance for National Transformation Party- ANT, Peter Mpaka, the National Unity Platform-NUP, Albert Atukunda and Apollo Kibira, both independents.

Today Wednesday 20th January 2021, Ugandans go to polls to vote for the Lord Mayor, Directly Elected Councilors and Women Councilors for Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and the ten (10) cities across the country.

Ugandans are also voting for Chairpersons, Directly Elected Councilors and Women Councilors for District Local Government Councils (LCV).
