Earlier this month, award–winning artist Eddy Kenzo was nominated for the Grammy Awards in the category of Best African Music Performance for his collaboration with instrumentalist Mehran Matin on the inspirational track “Hope and Love.”
The nomination has sparked heated debate within the entertainment industry — while many have celebrated the milestone as a major breakthrough for Uganda, others believe the achievement was based on luck rather than musical excellence.
Singer King Saha has now joined the critics. Speaking in an interview with a local YouTuber, Saha claimed that Kenzo’s nomination has nothing to do with strong music but rather his dancing style.
“Eddy Kenzo is a mere dancer. He was nominated for dancing and not music. Personally, I don’t engage in dancing and can never be nominated in such categories,” Saha stated.
Saha, who has long been openly hostile toward Kenzo, argued that he was overlooked for such recognition because he considers himself a true musician — unlike Kenzo, whom he describes as a performer who relies on dance moves.
Kenzo and King Saha have been known rivals in the industry, with Saha frequently belittling Kenzo’s artistry and publicly criticizing his music whenever given the opportunity.
