Outspoken blogger Ashburg Katto has publicly demanded a share of the Shs5 billion that was recently pledged to support content creators in Uganda.

The funds were promised by Yoweri Museveni to boost the operations of digital content creators across the country.

Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Katto argued that he deserves to benefit from the money because of his long-standing contribution to the blogging industry.

According to him, he was among the pioneers who helped shape the online content creation movement in Uganda.

“I initiated the blogging movement in content creation, and as a legend, I deserve respect and a part of the 5 billion for bloggers,” Katto said.

The money is expected to be channeled through a content creators’ SACCO that is being coordinated by media personality Isaac Katende, popularly known as Kasuku.

Katto, who has recently admitted that he is struggling financially, says the support would help him get back on his feet and continue contributing to the industry he helped build.

The Shs5 billion pledge has sparked widespread debate among content creators, with many now expressing interest in how the funds will eventually be distributed.
